What To Do With That Halloween Candy?

Ok be honest with me...

Have you picked up a Halloween candy and said “I’ll just have one” or “come on, this tiny Kit Kat won’t kill my goals...” I used to really struggle this time of year, in particular with Halloween 🤭

Only a few years ago I would buy a massive box of Halloween chocolate from Costco one or two weeks before Halloween (first mistake), then I’d bring it home and ask my partner to hide it. Once he went to work, I would then search the house high and low, every nook and cranny, until I found it! Then I’d eat half the box before Halloween even hit quickly making another trip to Costco so that we had enough for the day and before my partner caught on to what had happened 😵

I remember feeling so much guilt over this...asking myself questions like “why don’t I have enough self control to stop?” And “Why are these little chocolates controlling my life and every thought 🤯”?

Our brains are tricky things!! They will work to justify our actions and tell us that it’s okay and tell us things like one chocolate won’t kill our goals or our healthy habits. Then, pretty soon we are negotiating with ourselves that 2 or 3 won’t kill us either. Then after 4,5,6 we say “well, I’m just going to throw the towel in now!!! I’ve completely sabotaged everything, I might as well finish the box”!

So here we are the day before Halloween. If you’re struggling and have already had a few Kit Kat’s I want you to know ITS OK!!! We have ALL done it!!! But today I want you to STOP 🛑 . Why? Because this chocolate candy is filled with sugar and other ingredients that won’t serve you.

If you want chocolate, I want you to have chocolate 🍫 ! Yup, you heard me right. I want you to LEAN INTO THIA CRAVING ;)

Chocolate (the good kind) is actually good for you!

Dark chocolate is loaded with nutrients that can positively affect your health.

Made from the seed of the cocoa tree, it is one of the best sources of antioxidants on the planet. Studies show that dark chocolate can improve your health and lower the risk of heart disease.  YAY!!!

But here are some tips when it comes to chocolate:

⭐️ Find a dark chocolate (80% or higher is best) WITHOUT SUGAR. There are ones that are sweetened with coconut sugar and that’s ok.

⭐️ Pure cocoa nibs are great. Check out my stories to see a photo.

⭐️ Remember  is still calories and you don’t want to overdo it. Make it fit your macros and calories for the day (if you’re new to FFFL - we will be learning all about this soon)!!

⭐️ Making “chocolate-y” recipes like a chocolate chia seed pudding with cocoa powder can also be a great alternative to help you fix that chocolate craving! See a quick and easy macro balanced recipe below ;)

Soooooo are you committing to this with me starting today? NO MORE HALLOWEEN CANDY?!!!

Today’s mantra: “I am in control of what I put in my mouth and am making choices that serve my body, health and goals”.
