Clean water is actually a super nutrient that we MUST have to properly fuel our bodies. We literally can’t live without it! Read on to learn about the importance of water to the body as well as a few tips to help you get your ounces in each day!
The Importance Of Water To The Body
Clean water is one of the most important nutrients for us to consume. In fact, it is actually a super nutrient. Our bodies are made up of roughly 60%-70% water, which is why it’s so crucial to continuously be replenishing this nutrient in our bodies. We fuel our bodies with nutrient-dense foods, but water is lost much more easily than other nutrients.
How is water lost you might wonder?
We lose water through our skin when we sweat, through normal bodily functions, and even by just breathing. As you can see, we must lose a lot of water each and every day, which is why it’s so important to drink water consistently throughout the entire day.
Oftentimes, we are tricked into thinking that our thirst is something else, like hunger, skin problems, headaches, fatigue, etc. This happens all the time! However, more than likely if you’re experiencing these things, it has to do with your hydration and how much water you’re drinking.
Health Benefits of Water
Water is truly an amazing super nutrient. There are so many health benefits of water, and by drinking a gallon of water (16 cups) per day, you can reap these incredible health benefits. Trust me, once you start making drinking water a habit and experience how good it makes you feel, you’ll never want to stop!
Once you start prioritizing your hydration and drinking enough water, you’ll notice an increase in your energy and a clearer head (goodbye brain fog!). This makes it easier to focus during the day and be productive.
You’ll also begin to notice clearer skin, which translates to less wrinkles and a more glowing look. Proper hydration also lends to weight loss, decreased bloat, and less constipation. Your clothes will start to fit better and you’ll start to feel more confident - and that’s just the beginning!
Tips For Staying Hydrated
It can feel a little daunting at first to commit to drinking a gallon of water every single day. However, there are a few simple tips you can start applying to keep you hydrated and hitting your water goal throughout the day.
Set an alarm to remind yourself to drink up. You can set it for every 30 minutes, every hour, or whatever interval is manageable for you!
Jazz up your water by adding fruit (fresh or frozen) and herbs to your water. Allow the add-ins to infuse in your water for 4 hours or overnight to get all the natural benefits from the added fruits and herbs. Prep several different water options in mason jars so you have a variety to choose from. The best part is, you get to enjoy the yummy fruit once you’ve drank all of your water.
Add a pinch of pink himalayan salt to your water. This will help to ensure your body is absorbing the nutrients from the water.
Buy a large water bottle. I fill my 2L water bottle every morning and it comes with me EVERYWHERE! I especially love the water bottles with motivational sayings and goals on the side to help you stay on track with your water intake throughout the day.
Eat foods that have a high water content. Your water intake can also come from foods with a high water content, such as watermelon, pineapple, cucumbers, bell peppers, etc.
Drink a smoothie each day. The water added to your delicious smoothies also counts towards your daily intake! Add water and water-dense fruits to your smoothie for extra hydration.
It’s much easier to get your water in during the warmer months when you’re more active, sweating more, and reaching for water to quench your thirst. However, it’s just as important to ensure you’re hitting your water goals everyday in the colder months as well. Staying hydrated helps ensure your body functions at its best, keeps your skin hydrated, and aids in digestion.
By putting these few simple tips into practice, you can reap all the health benefits of water and make getting your ounces in a breeze. You’ll be amazed at how much better you feel!
